3. 3Write down the jobThe duties from the spending plan line, the schedule, the wage, and anything the plan or the FMS requires, such as a certification or a driving record.
4. 4Find the personSomeone you already know, a referral, or a posting. Ask the FMS what screening it requires before the first day: background check, references, identification.
5. 5Do the FMS onboarding packetApplication, I-9, W-4, direct deposit and the FMS’s own forms. Under Sole Employer you sign as the employer; under Co-Employer the FMS does.
6. 6Settle workers’ compensationAsk the FMS whether it is inside their approved burden for your model. Under Sole Employer you may need a policy in your name before anyone works.Burden by FMS
7. 7Confirm the authorization is in placeThe FMS needs the regional center’s authorization for the line before it can pay the first timesheet.
8. 8Set the timesheet routineHow hours are recorded, who approves them, and the FMS’s pay schedule. Agree this before the first shift.
9. 9First shiftWalk through the routine, the emergency contacts, and how you want to communicate. Check in at the end of the first week.
